Are redheads more prone to Endometriosis?
In a 1995 study:
- Of the 143 women who had surgery for infertility, 12 had natural red hair.
- Ten of the twelve women were diagnosed with endometriosis.
It was concluded that “The results suggest an association between the occurrence of natural red hair and those factors that lead to the development of endometriosis.”

In a 2006 study:
- Of the 90,065 women who were not infertile at the start of the study, “1,130 cases of laparoscopically confirmed endometriosis were reported” over a ten year period.
The study concluded, “we did not observe a significant relation between red hair color and the rate of endometriosis, however this prospective cohort study suggests that the relation may differ by infertility status.”

Further research is needed. As of 2024, it doesn’t look like there’s been any further research on the red hair question.
